Reports from the secretary and inspector showed a total of 102 cases dealt with during the month. It was decided that the society's recommendations for- the amendment of the Child Welfare Act should again be referred to the Government, with a request that a deputation be received on this question. The conditions of detention of female prisoners was the subject of discussion, and a committee was asked to report. In regard to the recommendations ou State maternity services submitted to the Minister of Health, a reply had been received covering a report by the medical officers of the Health Department on the obstetric methods of the St. Helens Hospitals, particularly in connection with the administration of chloroform by midwives.
