HOURS OF STAFF
WORK AT THE HOSPITAL MOTIONS NOT ACCEPTED Three notices of motion put forward by Mrs. M. M. Dreaver at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board, proposing a readjustment of hours for the hospital staff to a 40-hour week and increased wages, were ruled out of order by the chairman, the Rev. W. C. Wood, on the grounds that shorter hours for the staff would involve additional qnnual expenditure amounting to £'21,750, and that salaries and wages could only be reviewed at the end of March. *
Mr. Wood told Mrs. Dreaver it would not bo possible to draw the Government's attention to the matters, as the form in which she had introduced them was contrary to the board's constitution and its general interest. Mrs. Dreaver: I protest, seeing the motions are on the order paper. The Chairman: I cannot allow you to speak to the matter. Mrs. Dreaver: I disagree with your ruling. The Chairman: That is disorderly. You must accept my ruling.
