OUTLET FROM CITY
SUGGESTED NEW ROUTE BOARD'S SUPPORT SOUGHT A letter from the Remuera East Ratepayers' Association regarding the proposed new main route from the city, by way of Orakei, Panmure and Otahuhu, was received at a meeting of the Papakura Town Board last night. It was stated that the new route would benefit the Remuera district by providing an outlet fot five blind roads, and would be of great benefit to the outlying districts also, as it would provide a moro direct and open outlet from the city than did the Great South Road. The association asked for the board s co-operation, first in enlisting the approval of the Auckland City Council, and then in submitting the scheme to the Minister of Public Works, with a proposal that it be treated as a national undertaking. "We should give our support to this proposal," said the chairman. Mr. H.E. McEntee. "Any route that will allow traffic to enter the city more freely than at present will be of great benefit to this town." A committee, consisting of the chairman, Mr. D. Weir and Mr. G. F. McDonald, was appointed to investigate the matter.
