WILD SCENE

ANGRY REFUGEES

BRITONS IN GIBRALTAR - POLICE CHARGE CROWD By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received September 14, 7.5 p.m.) GIBRALTAR, Sept. 13 The sudden decision of the authorities to close the refugee camp which accommodated 800 British men, women and children from the civil war zone, led to a disorderly demonstration to-day. Previously there had been a quiet procession, including women, in which banners were displayed demanding rights for British subjects. The police shepherded the procession to the police station as it was moving toward Government House and arrested several people. The remainder volunteered to accompany them to gaol. The police made a baton charge and injured several of the demonstrators. They dispersed the remainder but subsequently groups of excited people paraded the streets. The police are guarding Government House. Apparently the refugees, who are carrying their belongings, must spend the night in the streets and further disturbances are feared.
