CONSTABLE OBSTRUCTED
LORRY-DRIVER CHARGED MAGISTRATE IMPOSES FINE [bt telegraph OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Monday "The offence of obstructing a police officer is most serious, and although accused is a foreigner and of an excitable temperament, it is quite obvious that he did not immediately disclose the information to the police," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, when Ivan Vuletich was charged that being the driver of a inotor-lorry on the Waipu-Whangarei road, he obstructed Constable J. A. Haley while in the execution of his duty. He was also charged with driving a lorry not equipped with a mirror arranged so that tho driver could be aware of the existence of approaching traffic, with failing to move to the left to allow a reasonable space for a vehicle to pass, and with failing to keep the lorry as far as practicable to the left of the centre-line of the road.
After hearing evidence, the magistrate imposed a fine of £3 and costs on the first charge, and a fine of £1 and costs on the second. The other two charges were dismissed.
