DELAY TO STEAMER

ONE SHORT IN CREW WINGATUI SAILS LATE After being delayed for 16 hours owing to a shortage of crew the Union Company's cargo steamer Winga-iui sailed for Wellington on Saturday afternoon. The vessel was to have left at 10 o'clock 011 Friday night, but at sailing time a substitute had juot been engaged to replace a fireman who had injured his hand during the day. There was also a dispute between the crew and the company regarding the men's messroom, which the many said was dark in the daytime. They requested that in future it be lighted up during the lunch hour. The request was granted, but it was midday before a fireman was signed on and the vessel sailed at 2 p.m. The discharging and loading of overseas ships in port continued on Saturday without interruption and overtime was worked in the afternoon where required. After being delayed on Friday through not obtaining labour the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tainaroa commenced unloading her cargo from Loudon on Saturday morning. The Union Company's chartered steamer Narbada completed unloading for Auckland and sailed for Southern ports in the evening.
