MERCURY BAY
ANNUAL SPRING SHOW The Mercury Bay Women's Institute lield their annual spring flower show recently. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr. 11. Henderson, who congratulated the institute upon their wonderful display. The judges of the different sections were Dr. Hinds and Mr. Watkins (Mercury Bay), Mrs. McKenzie and Mrs. Turner, of Coromandel. The refreshment rooms were iu charge of Mesdames A. McLeod, G. Ralph and F. Brophv; a bring-sand-buy stall was in charge of Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Liddell, and the Blind Institute stall was in charge of Mrs. W. Kirk. Items were given during the afternoon by Mrs. Broad, her accompanist being Mrs. Ralph. Prizes to the successful competitors were presented by the president, Mrs. J. W. Smith. The prize-winners were as follows: — Twelve heaviest eggs, Mrs. R. A. Simpson; best six pieces shortbread, Mrs. Worden; best sponge, Mrs. 0. Liddell; best man's buttonhole, Miss Lee; best bowl marigolds, Mrs. G. Hodge; best pot plant, Mrs. H. Bowman; best bowl of any flowers, Miss K. Hodge; best vase of any flowers, Mrs. Lyon; best bowl of freesias, Miss Lee; best bowl of stocks, Mrs. Sylvia: best vase of Iceland poppies, Mrs. Worden; best bowl of dafl'odils, Mrs. H. Robinson; best three daffodils, Miss L. Robinson; best daffodil, Miss L. Robinson; best bowl of anemones, Mrs. Dewer; best head of stock, Mrs. Hinds; best bowl of pansies, Mrs. Price; buttonhole made by a child, Harry Simpson; posy made by a child, Helena Mottley; decorated table (Mr. Watkins' prize), Mrs. Worden; collection of vegetables, special prize. Mr. E. D. Worden.
