NEW CRUISER
REAR-ADMIRAL'S CALL WELCOME TO THE MEN The commanding officer of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, paid a call on H.M.S. Achilles yesterday. He was received at the head of the gangway by Captain I. G. Glennie and Commander S. H. Pa ton.. After the rear-admiral had inspected the guard of Royal Marines, who were stationed aft with their band, the officers of the Achilles were presented to him.
Rear-Admiral Drununond returned to the ship later -in the day and addressed the men. In welcoming those who were 011 the New Zealand station for the first time, together with those who had returned after service overseas, Rear-Admiral Druimnoiul said that good reports had been received of the Achilles since she had been commissioned, and 110 hoped that this reputation would be maintained. Three calls will be paid by Captain Glennie this morning. At 11.15 o'clock he will calL on Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Command. at the Drill Hall, and at 11.40 an official call will be made on Mr. C. G. Macindoe, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. Captain Glennie will call on tho Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, at noon. x , , An Association football match between teams representing the Achilles and tho Dunedin will be played this afternoon.
