VARYING THE RESTRICTION EXEMPTIONS FROM NEW LIMIT The intention to make use of the power conferred upon him under the amended motor vehicles laws to remove whero necessary the 30 miles an hour speed limit recently imposed in all cities, boroughs and town districts was announced by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. It. Semple, on Saturday morning. "Where a town area embraces part of a main highway on which there is no congestion the law gives mo pQwer to vary the limit," Mr. Semple said. Ho mentioned the Great South Road near Drury as an example and said that in other similar places tho limit would be liftfed. The, fact that SO miles an hour was the maximum speed, and not the minimum, was stressed by the Minister. He issued a reminder that the law still made it obligatory for the motorist to drive to the safety of the public, which meant speeds under 15 miles an hour in some places.
