NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE

TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP L. J. Ellis has decided to take a complete rest from riding before the new season starts in earnest. It is stated that A. E. Didham has been engaged to ride Kinnoull in his engagements in Australia. Gay Mulla,- a three-year-old by Mullaboden from Phantasy, is being trained at Trentham iby W. J. Wood for Mrs; W. A. Fuller and may have his first race at Foxton.

Tiderace, tho first son of Fairway to reach New Zealand, and Vermeer, the first of Solai-io's progeny to be imported into tho Dominion, arrived at Wellington this week. The former goes to Okawa, Hawke's Bay, and tho latter to Cambridge.

The Tnkanini trainer J. Cruse is booked to leave for Wanganui to-day with the three-year-old Surella, who is engaged at next week's meeting. Surella shaped very creditably in his first race this season in the Sylvia Park Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting and is likely to be all the better for the run.

Two early colts made their appearance at about the same time at the Kia Ora stud, New South Wales, last month. They were the first by Chatham and Medieval'" Knight respectively.. Chatham was one of the best horses up to a mile that Australia has seen, while Medieval Knight, who ran in Windsor Lad's Derby, is by Gay Crusader, from Hasty Love, by Hurry On.

The Kilbroney gelding Gay Broney, who has been off the scene for several months, has made a reappearance at Ellei'slie and was out working on tho sand yesterday. He looks bright and healthy to undergo another preparation.. His owner, ,T. D. Kemp, has also recommissioned the five-yoar-old mare Jolly Dance, who was treated to a spell a few months back after contracting a cold.

Apparently the last has been seen on tlio racecourse of the brilliant galloper ,Fair Trial, who is said to ,be unquestionably the best iniler in England, Fair Trial won the Lingfiold Park Plate in a cantor by six lengths from his solitary opponent, Boswell, but three days later was found to have strained a back tendon. It is tho intention of his owner, Mr. J. A. Dewar, to send him to the stud next year.
