RATES AND EXPENDITURE STREETS WORK PROPOSALS [by telegkaph—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Thursday The Tauranga Borough Council has adopted its estimates for the year ended March 31, 1937, and has fixed the total rates on the same basis as last year, namely, 5 17-64 d in the pound in the drainage area and 4 47-64 d in the pound outside the drainage area. The rates are on the unimproved value. The total estimated expenditure, not including loan accounts, is £14,029. Provision is made for the following expenditure:—Streets work, £2810: lighting streets, £400; public reading room and library, £150; fire board levy, £301; band subsidy, £200; hospital levy, £1073; borough gardener, £345; ladies' rest room, £250 ; beautifying purposes, £2OO.
