FIFTY YEARS AGO
RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION The construction of railways, an activity now before the public notice as a major method of reducing unemployment, was used for a similar purpose 50 years ago. The following extract was taken from the Zeai.and Hkkai.d of August 17, 1886.-" "The Public Works Department have received communications from » over the colony in relation to necessity of finding work lor the ployed.
