TEN GOALS MARGIN

GRAMMAR'S HIGH SCORE Somerville made a poor showing against Grammar Old Boys on the No. 2 ground at Papatoetoe. Somerville made a promising start and went close to scoring on several occasions in the early exchanges. Grammar's forwards, however, soon had tho upper hand and in the second spell overwhelmed the dofence to compile the final score of 10 goals to nil. Somerville's forwards showed no signs of finish in the circle and time and again good scoring opportunities wero lost through mishitting. The stickwork of the whole Somerville side was poor and lacked tho precision and crispness displayed by the better combinations. The backs were inclined to fnmblo and were caught in possession many times. A good forward movement, commenced by Jerrani, who passed infield to Houghton, which gave Twigden a clear drive, opened the scoring for Grammar. Grammar netted again shortly afterward when from a long corner Boughton secured and goaled from tho melee. Both Houghton and Twigden secured another goal each before half-time, when the score was:—Grammar, -J; Somerville, 0.

Somerville made a brief rally on the resumption, but onco again mishitting allowed Grammar to clear. Nice work by I. Boss, who passed to Houghton, who sent in a splendid drive to the back of the net, was responsible for Grammar's next score. From this stage Somerville's backs made a poor showing and Grammar's total steadily increased. The scorers wero Houghton (0), Twigden (2), I. Ross and .Terrain. The Grammar forwards all did well and received fair support from their halves Bobinson and Hay were seldom hard pressed, while Anderson was always safe. Wellboumo as usual, was outstanding in the Somervillo line, hut could do little effective work alone. As with tho remainder of the forwards, the halves lacked good stickwork and in tho latter stages made only feeble attempts to cover up. The two backs, Stewart and Smith, were not impressive. Stewart paid too much attention to body play, while Smith was over confident and fumbled a number of his clearances. Delahunty was fair, many of the shots which passed him being impossible to slop. Messrs. C. Preston and E. Hewitt were umpires.
