WOMAN ASSAULTED
TWO CHARGES ADMITTED Pleas of guilty to charges of assaulting Katherine Fltiste and. using obscene language were entered by John Joseph Corby, a seaman on the Kaikorai, aged 36, wlieu he appeared in the Ponce Court on Saturday before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Sub-inspector Fox said that on Friday evening accused and the woman consumed a quantity of liquor and as he was about to leave to join his ship, which was leaving at 10 p.m., there was some trouble. Corby struck the woman, injuring her nose, after which he took her in a taxi to an all-night dispensary for attention. When returning, he ordered the taxi driver to stop in Hobson Street, and 011 being asked for the fare refused and began to abuse the driver. A constable, attracted by the disturbance, was obtaining particulars of the assault when Corby began to walk away, giviug further abuse, for which he was arrested. His ship saw in the meantime for Newcastle. "Im* man has quite a list of convictions, including ones on similar charges with which lie is now charged, Fox added. , "Tho incidents leading up. to tno assault and the commission of it appeal to have been a disgusting business 8!t far as all parties are concerned, saw the magistrate. Accused was fined -i"®' in default seven days' imprisonmen i on the charge of assault, and sentences to 14 days' imprisonment for using indecent language.
