ADDITIONS TO HOSPITAL

TE KOPURU SCHEME ATTITUDE OF DEPARTMENT [BY TEI.EGRAPII OWN CORRESPONDENT] DARGAVILLE, Friday Tho question of adding to tho Northern Wairoa Hospital at Te Kopuru was again discussed by the Kaipara Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday, when a plan forwarded by the architect, Mr. A. P. Morgan, providing for extra accommodation, was received. It was decided to forward the plan to the Department of Health. In his letter tho architect stated that he considered that £6OO would be sufficient to cover the cost of providing additional accommodation 011 the lines recommended by the recent conference of local bodies, but with costs increasing it was difficult to make an accurate estimate. Tho medical superintendent, Dr. E. J. A. Marshall, said ho did not think the department would agreo to the additions proposed, as 110 provision for further sanitary facilities had been made. However, if the additions were only to provide for about two years, tho department might approve. The Otaniatca County Council wrote confirming the resolutions forwarded by the board in connection with the recent conference of contributing local bodies, but urged the desirability of the Government being asked to investigate the question of amalgamation between the Kaipara and Whangarci Hospital Boards before any largo building proposals were entered into. The department of Health acknowledged receipt of the resolutions adopted by the conference, and stated that it was agreed that until a filial decision was made on the question of site, expenditure 011 any additions to the picsent buildings should be kept at a minimum. Tho request that tho Minister of Health, tho Hon. P. Fraser, should visit tho district would be placed before him, while an officer of the department would inspect and repoit on the proposed site, probably at the end of this month, or early in Septetnbor.
