The experiments are being made in the presence of officials of the Ministry of Transport and experts from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and of the Building Research Station. The first experiment took place to-day near Derby, and others will follow in Birmingham and Essexg An ingenious mechanism has been devised for recording the gradual distortion of the bridges under strain up to the breaking point.
