NEW MOTOR-SHIP
UNION COMPANY VESSEL MATUA DUE ON THURSDAY The Union Company's new motorship Matua will arrive at Auckland from Kngland early on Thursday morning, according to her wireless advice, liuilt for the company's Island trade, the vessel is specially equipped for tho carriage of fruit. Four of the 'tween deck compartments and three holds are insulated and fitted with the latest system of air coolers, fans and air circulating trunks. She has four decks, including promenade and boat decks, and accommodation is provided for about 40 passengers. Her tonnage is 41 (16 gross and she is built to Lloyds A 1 class. Driven bv twin-screw Sul/.er two-cycle single-acting Diesel engines, she is very fast, and on her trials her maximum speed was slightly over 17 knots. The Matua arrived at Rarotonga on August 2 and loaded fruit in the Cook Islands group before resuming her voyage. After a fortnight's stay at Auckland, the Matua will commence her Island running. She is to sail on August 127 for Nukualofa, Apia and Suva, returning to Auckland on September 9.
