AUTOMATIC SYSTEM EXTENSION ANNOUNCED (Received August ft, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, August 8 With the opening to-day of the 99th automatic telephone exchange in the London area, the development of the automatic system, is carried to a stage where roughly half of all the siK|)scribers in the London area are served by this method. The change-over is at the Royal Exchange. which serves the busy commercial area on the south-east boundary of the City. The traffic passing through the exchange, which has provision for 9400 lines, will reach about 17,000 calls an hour at the busiest part of the day.
