AUCKLAND BOWLERS QUEENSLAND TOUR ENDS BRISBANE, August S The visiting Auckland bowlers returned to Brisbane niter spending three weeks in the country. Mr. A. J. Parker stated that there is a likelihood of four or five rinks ol Queensland players visiting New Zealand in the new year. The party will possibly include the official Queensland rink. Tile New Zealanders "ill leave Brisbane to-morrow and will depart from Sydney on August 19. • Tl;o party of Auckland bowlers who left Auckland by the Monowai on May 29 on a visit to Sydney and Brisbane, consisted of Messrs. CARNIVAL AT SUVA MATAMATA RINK SUCCESSFUL [t'UOM Olllt OWN COItI!KSI'ONDKN'J'] SUVA, August 1 By defeating another New Zealand team in the final, the Matnmata rink won the Fiji rinks championship at the Suva bowling carnival just concluded. The Matnmata rink was: Simpson, Gnnu, Egau and Crabb. Its opponents in the final were: A. Williamson, K. Williamson, J. Croucher and Cooksley, Palmerston North. In Hie semi-final Malamata had a stubbornly contested game with the Itewa rink i Fiji)', winning eventually by 18—1<. Rewa led at the loth head by 12—9. The l'almcrston North rink gained the right to contest the final by defeating an Australian rink, 18—11. The final extended f over three and a-half hours and every minute was brimful of in terest. On the 12th head Matamata led 12—9, and the game was fairly even. On four heads Palmerslon failed to score, which took the leader to 20 9. On the next, two heads Palmcrston North scored n three and a two, and hopes were entertained of gaining equality, but the team again stuck for live heads on the score of 1 t. while Matamata forged ahead to 2i>, eventually running out an easy winner by 27 to Hi. The game was more evenly con lesled than the score indicates. Crabb and Egan, of Malamata, were runners-tip in (he pairs competition. The carnival attracted about 50 or (>() bowlers from overseas and some fine games were witnessed. The Soulli Pacific pennant, which is a feature of the carnival, was won by Fiji by 45 to 2S.
