INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Glen Afton-Pukemiro. —A very pleasant evening was spent by the institute members recently, singing and games being enjoyed. A demonstration of work by members was a feature of the meeting. A presentation was made to two members, Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. Atkin, who are leaving the district. Waiterimu-Matahuru. —Mrs. (J. Storey presided. A presentation was made to Mrs. C. C. Hawken in recognition of her valuable services as secretary. A joke from each member caused much merriment. A programme of songs and elocutionary items was given by Mesdames Storey, McGovern, lies and the Misses Mavis and Marjorie Wallace and Johns. Rangiriri.—Mrs. Baron presided over a well-attended meeting. The roll call was "Three minutes' talk by each member." Points prizes were won as follows:—Best bowl of preserved fruit, Mrs. A. de Thierry; best bloom, Mrs. Crop. Mrs. C. Gall was appointed delegate to the Dominion Conference. Jubilee. —The roll call, the most useful thing in the kitchen, brought forth many useful devices. A demonstration of making tinsel paper pictures was given by Mrs. Higgins. Prize-winners in competitions were Mrs. W. E. Higgins, Mrs. Tliornley, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Drummond. Items were given by Mrs. Drummond and Miss Walter, and Mrs. King played the accompaniments. Mrs. Hayward was in charge of the sales table. Later in the month the birthday party was held. Many visitors were present from surrounding districts, including Mrs. Bridgeman, organiser, and Mrs. Chapman, vice-president of the Waikato Federation. Items were given by Mesdames Hayward, Nelson, M iss Liddy and Mrs. Higgins. The accompanists were Mrs. King and Miss A. A. Burton. A one-act play, "Mrs. Watson's Window," was another enjoyable feature of the' party, and elocution by Mesdames Drummond and Iverson (Central Otago) was much appreciated. Competition winners were Mrs. McGibbon and Mrs. Iverson. Waimauku. —Mrs. Kerr presided at a meeting of the institute. A demonstration of reed loom work, with accompanying instructions, was given by Mr. Culpan, of Auckland. A display of pewter work done bv members attracted much interest. The hostesses, Airs. Dorricott and Misses Enid Hodkinson and Nancy Harrison, served afternoon tea.
