BIG CONTEST TO-DAY AUCKLAND PLAYS OTAGO LIST OF TROPHY HOLDERS Auckland, the first province to hold the Ranfurly Shield after it was donated by Lord Ranfurly, a former Governor of New Zealand, will play Otago, the present holder of the trophy, at Carisbrook ground, Dunodin. to-day. The Auckland team was to have met Canterbury on Saturday, but, as this match was postponed on account of snow in Christchurch, no guide has so far been given of the touring team's form. The result of to-day's challenge will ho eagerly awaited by Auckland enthusiasts, who are confident that, if the Auckland pack plays true to form, the shield will be returned north. The Otago team is the same as that which defeated Southland in the first challenge match for tho shield at Dunedin last Saturday, except that Valentine replaces Ltfney in tho forwards.
