TELEPHONE WIRE CUT
NOISE CAUSED ON ROOF DEFENDANT TO PAY COSTS [by TELEGRArH OWN CORRESPONDENT] OPOTIKI, Tuesday Charged with damaging a telephone line by cutting a wire, Romeo Wirepa was convicted and ordered to pay costs in the Opotiki Magistrate's Court. Evidence was given by the police that Wirepa cut the telephone line of the schoolmaster, Mr. A. F. Rolland. In a statement, defendant admitted cutting the wire. Mr. Hodgson, who appeared for Wirepa, submitted that the wire was just above Wirepa's roof and made so much noise the occupants, some of whom were sick, could not sleep. Wirepa had pulled the wire away and it had broken.
The magistrate said Wirepa should not have cut the wire, which he had admitted in his own writing.
