STOWAWAY ON MARAMA

NO ATTEMPT TO HIDE PLANNED TO GO ROUND WORLD Mixing with passengers, having his meals in the dining saloon and sleeping in a third-class cabin, a young New Zealander who stowed away on the Marama, which arrived at Auckland from Sydney yesterday, was not discovered until the medical inspection 011 Sunday. The traveller, Collins Brinson, left Hastings 18 months ago with the intention of working his way round the world. Sailing from Auckland he visited Australia, the United States, Japan and other ports on the way to these countries. He was hoping to see England when he shipped as a hand on the Swedish steamer Boxen, ■which was loading for Liverpool, in Australia. At Adelaide his plans came to an end. When he was carrying some heavy iron bolts down a companion-way the stairs broke beneath him and lie fell with the bolts oil top of him, his chest being severely injured. Out of hospital after some weeks be found that he could not expect to work 011 ships for a long time, and so had to find his way back to New Zealand. When he arrived at Sydney he was destitute and therefore decided to stow a way. On the Marama he acted like a passenger and made 110 attempt to avoid observation. But he was defeated when he had to give his name to the doctor at tiie examination, and confessed that lie was a stowaway. Now 110 intends to go hoine.
