TRANSFER OF PLAYER
NEWTON CLUB'S REQUEST The transfer of T. Toki from North Auckland to Auckland was the subject of a protest by the Northland' Rugby League to last evening's meeting of the New Zealand Rugbv League Council. The Northland League Htated that it was a clear case of "poaching" players, and all conditions of the transfer rule had not been complied with. The chairman, Mr. C. A. Snedden, said that no action could be taken until the Auckland Rugby League had dealt with the matter and been acquainted with all the circumstances. . . Mr. W. Liversidge expressed tho opinion that the Auckland League had no right to deal with the matter as it was apparently an arrangement with the Manukau Club and Northland. , Mr. W. O. Carlaw said that he was aware of the circumstances and the transfer was not in order. . Mr. J. Peterson, secretary to the Northland League, said that the transfer was ap- ! proved as the outcome of a tclc&r&rn to the I Manukau Club and it was granted under j Davidson asked the position if the Manukau Club played Toki. Mr. Snedden replied that the Manukau Club took that risk and it was also evident that the Northland League could not place any condition on tho transfer. In vie.w of all the circumstances the matter should be referred to the Auckland League. It was decided to adopt this suggestion. The Auckland Rugby League forwarded a I request from the Newton Club to reopen ; the case of one or its senior players who i was recently suspended. I Mr. Snedden said that no evidence was I submitted and it was impossible at this stage i to take any action. Mr. E.
