40-HOUR WEEK
POWER BOARD'S ATTITUDE QUESTION OF SATURDAY WORK In the opinion of tho Auckland Elec-tric-Power Board, tho board's office and fault service staffs should be available on Saturdays, as at present. This view was expressed by members at a meeting of the board-in-committee, when tho general manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley, asked for a direction whether the provisions of the 40-hour week legislation should now be put into operation, and inquired whether it was tho board's intention that work should be done on five (lavs a week only. This was practicable as far as tho outside staff was concerned, Mr. Bartle.v said. However, in the case of tho office and faults service staffs, ho thought it would be necessary to continue the services as at present, on Saturdays. It was stated at a meeting of the hoard yesterday that Mr. Bartley had been asked to report on tho nature of the work covered by tho faults service stall', and the hours during which the service was called upon. Jt was also reported that authority had boon given for the purchase of an additional van for use in the faults service.
