TOWN BOARD MEETING THE QUALITY OF WATER In consequence of the recent allegations made regarding pollution in the catchment area at Hunua, a report from Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, Auckland, was brought before the Papakura Town Board last night. It was stated that a sample of raw water taken from the overflow-pipe at the filter station before filtration or chlorination had occurred had been submitted for chemical analysis, and had resulted in the water being declared of good quality for potable and domestic use, as it contained little organic matter. The Chairman, Mr. H. E. McEntee: This report is very satisfactory. After passing through the filter station the water must be absolutely pure. It was decided by the board that a copy of the report be sent to tlie Manure',va Town Board and the Manurewa Ratepayers' Association. , The One Tree Hill Borough Council stated that it had requested the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association to apply to the Auckland ElectricPower Board for substantial reductions in street-lighting charges. Notwithstanding substantial reductions, the Auckland charges were still considerably higher than those in other centres. The Papakura board was requested to consider the matter with a view to instructing its delegates to the Suburban Lccal Bodies' Association - as to their attitude when the matter was brought before the association. The Chairman: Whereas the amount Eaid for street lighting by many bodies as been substantially reduced, the amount paid in Papakura has remained stationary. Capital charges on street lighting are excessive. It was resolved by the board that the delegates to the Suburban Local Bodies' Association, Messrs. H. E. McEntee and J. Richardson, should bring down comments on the report at the next injxThe Auckland Hospital Board's levy totalled £450. A communication was received from the Manurewa Town Board, in which it was announced that, as the Papatoet<>3 Town Board had signified its willingness to bo represented at a conference to discuss the amalgamation of local hodies, a meeting would be called at a later date.
