STORM OFF SUSSEX
LIGHTNING STRIKES STEAMER FLOODING AT EASTBOURNE British Wireless lUJGHY, Jnly i<) In the course of an exceptionally severe storm over the Sussex coast today the pleasure steamer Brighton Belle was struck by lightning. The mast was damaged. Captain Smith, who was on the bridge, and the wireless operator were knocked down and suffered burns on the face and neck. None of the passengers are reported to have been injured, and as most of them were taking shelter thej were unaware that the vessel had been struck. Among south coast towns which felt the full force of the,storm, Kastbourne suffered most. It is reported that during ono hour nearly two inches of rain fell in the streets, find many shops and houses were flooded, firemen being called in to pump water from the flooded premises.
