DEFEAT SUFFERED AT WANGANUI [UY TEf.KCItAI'U —I'IIKSS ASSOCIATION] WANUAN'UI, Sunday Showery weather cleared as the Fiji Indies' hockey team, wearing shorts, look the field yesterday against Wangantii. Play was even for the first twenty minutes, both sides missing opportunities, until a Wanganui attack was led by Miss Worrall, who centred to Miss It. Krooks, who scored. Fiji attacked, hut tho shot missed. Wanganui returned and bombarded the Fiji goal for some time, but failed to penetrate. There was no further score at half-time. Fiji showed better combination than in Its previous game, but was inclined to make speculating shots too often. Tho Wanganui players kept their places better than the visitors, who bunched at critical stages.
The second spell opened promisingly for Fiji, which attacked, but found the ground, which was cutting up as a result, of rain, against its tactics. There were fast and exciting interchanges in midtleid, hut Fiji was unable to finish off its movements. A Wanganui attack ended in a centre by Miss YYorrall and a Fijian girl accidentally put the ball into her own goal. Fiji' attacked keenly. Miss Kaffirs missing a goal chance from a penalty bully, anil then Miss Sutherland missed a goal after winning a bully. Fiji tried hard near the end, but it was resultless. Roth sides tired perceptibly toward the finish of the game, which ended: —Wiuiganui, 2; Fiji, 0.
