FARM LABOUR WAGES
Sir, —Tn your issue of July 2 you state that Mr. C. A. "Wilkinson, Mip, indicated that the following scale ..might be adopted:—Butter-fat at Is per lb, wages 50s a week; at Is Id, waxet £3; at ]s 2d, wages £3 lO.s. Now, if you take the case of a dairy farmer who has been employing one hand at 25s a week, and whose returns last year from tho factory were 50001b of buttcr-fat, how would the new legiji lation affect him? Buttcr-fat at Is per lb., increase ol' wages, £65 per annumat Is Id, increase of £UI; at Is 2d increase of £ll7. (/ranted that the price of butter-fat last year was lg per lb., the farmer would lose £135 if the guaranteed price was Is, and for every penny rise in the price lie would lose an extra £5 4s a year. I think there should be a clause inserted in the bill giving tho worker the option of remaining on the farm and sharing the bonus over Is per lb. with the employer. I l 'air Play is Bonny Play,
