OBITUARY
MR. JOHN STEVENSON The death occurred at Invercargiil 011 July 3 of Mr. John Stevenson, at the age of 68 years. Mr. Stevenson was well known in the business and sporting community of Southland, and for the past 30 years was manager of the Inverenrgill warehouse of Bing, Harris and Company, Limited. Ho was born at Geelong, Victoria, and came to New Zealand at an early age. As a youth he joined the clerical staff of Bing, Harris and Company, in 1884, at Dunedin. After over 20 years' service with tho firm Ikj took over the managership of tho Invercargiil branch and completed 50 years' service during his term there. Mr. Stevenson took a keen interest in public affairs. He was a member of the Invercargiil Chamber of Commerce and represented that body on the Southland League for several years. Ho was a former member of tho Invercargiil Borough Council, a member of the Invercargiil Orphans' Club, the Invercargiil Rotary Club and the School Sports Association. In his younger days in Dunedin he was a prominent member of the Zingari and Pirates Bugby Football Clubs. He took up bowls in Invercargiil and for many years was a member of the Southland Bowling Club, eventually becoming president, and also holding'the office of president of the Southland Bowling Centre. He took an active part in lodge and Church affairs, and was for 31 years a member of the Masonic Lodge St. John, No. 94, and a deacon of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. In 1593 he married .Miss .Alary Elizabeth Overton, of Henley. He is survived by his wife, three daughters. Mrs. L. B. Lopdell, of Invercargiil; Mrs. J. B. Howie, of Auckland; and Mrs. J. G. Miicalister, of Kaunna; and one son, Mr. I. B. Stevenson, of Dunedin.
MBS. ANNIE MUNRO [FROM OUtt OWN COHItKSPONDF.NT] WHANGAREI, Sunday The death occurred in Whangarei yesterday of Mrs. Annie Munro, aged 81, one of the oldest residents in tho district, Mrs. Munro was born in Nova Scotia and came to New Zealand with her parents when she was two years of ago. Ihc family settled at Whangarei Heads. Mrs. Munro married Mr. Andrew. Munro, who died in December. 1931. MOTHER FRANCES OHITTY []JY TELI'XJH.U'ir —I'KHSS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Saturday The death has occurred of Mother Frances Chitty, at the Sacred Heart Convert, Island Bay, at tho age of 85 years. She arrived in New Zealand 50 years ago, and served as a school mistress at Hamilton. Later she spent 34 years at Timaru.
