NEW FIRE STATION
OBJECTIONS TO SITE Objections to the site in S.vmonds Street chosen for the proposed new Central Kire Station are held by property owners in the vicinity and those interested in the various schools in adjacent streets. It is contended that the proximity of the fire station would constitute a grave danger to the pupils who cross the streets at all times of the day to and from the Seddon .Memorial Technical College, the Welleslev Street Primary School and the Old Grammar School, where the Khun School of Art and other classes are conducted Property owners are concerned, as thev consider the whole area will be depreciated in value. They maintain that with private hospitals, a church and luanv residential hotels, boarding houses and flats in the vicinity, the site is unsuitable, and that in any case the position is not a good one. A public meeting of protest against the choice of site will be held in the assembly hall of the Technical College to-morrow night. It has been convened hy Air K A. Spinley on behalf of the trustees of a large private hotel in the vicinity, at the request of a number of persons interested. The principal oi the college, Air. G. J. Park, will bo among tli© speakers.
