EDUCATION IN NORTH
THE WHANGAREI SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION OF COMMITTEES [from ope own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Saturday " This large gathering is an inspiration to those taking an interest in educational matters," said Mr. C. V. Stringer in welcoming delegates of school committees at a meeting in Whangarei to consider the formation of a combined schoo"! committees' association. The represented schools within the Whangarei town and county numbered 65. In moving the resolution to form the association, Mr. Stringer said he was satisfied that through lack of co-opera-tion they had at times been pushed into the background. The association would be of great advantage to all the schools within the area, especially the smaller schools in the more isolated areas. The resolution was carried unanimously and it was decided to call the association the Whangarei District Primary School Committees' Association. The following officers were elected: —Chairman, Mr. C. V. Stringer; secretary, Mr. E. B. Moore; executive 'committee, Messrs. J. W. Cartwright (Onerahi), K. Wilson (Portland), J. G. Draper (Maungatapere), B. Taylor (Glenbervie), M. W Porter (Whau Valley), G. Martin (Otonga), J. M. Steedman (Otaika). Cliff Smith (Whareora), 13. K. Miller (Horahora), W. Thorburn (Otaikarangi). A resolution was carried that the meeting affirmed the principle of a separate Kducation Hoard for Nortl* Auckland, and was prepared to support the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce or any other responsible body taking the lead in the matter.
