Luise Rainer has been given a new long-term contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Walter Fordo has signed a contract to direct an all-colour musical for Max Schach. C. B. Cochran will supervise tho production. Jan Kiepura's brother is making his film debut in an Austrian picture. He acts under the nam© of Wladislaw Ladis. Padio have bought a story called "Mirage," written by tho famous stuntpilot. J)ick Grace. It tolls the history of flying. Jean Arthur's next picture is to be "Purple and Fine Linen." Columbia will produce it, with Edward Ludwig directing. Ben Lyon is to appear as a spongefisher in "Beneath the Sea." The story deals with the lives of Greek divers in Florida. Joe E. Brown is leaving America for England at the end of July and is said to bo willing to make one picture thero. He already has a contract for four pictures for Radio. Anna Neaglo is to play in another historical-biographical picture. She is to appear as Lady Hamilton in Herbert Wilcox's next production. Nobody has yet been chosen to play Nelson. Sol Lesser is planning a screen history of tho screen itself. The picture will be called "Celluloid." Negotiations are in progress to get Walter Huston for the principal lead. Irving Berlin has been engaged to writo another musical film for 20th Century-Fox. He recently completed the music for "On the Avenue," which tho same company will produce soon. Allan Jones has been given the male lead opposite Eleanor Powell in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's "Broadway Melody of 1937." Ho has recently been playing opposite Irene Dunne in "Show Boat." John Boles has signed a contract with Paramount under which he will both star in their films and have time oil: to make personal appearances throughout America. Ho is to bo paid £10,000; and gets £ISOO a week for the personal appearances.
