SPY IMPRISONED
CONVICTION IN AMERICA SECRET NAVAL INFORMATION LOS ANGELES. July 6 Harry Thompson, formerly of the United States Navy, was sentenced today to 15 years' imprisonment on conviction of conspiracy to sell secret naval information to an agent of Japan. He is considered to be the first peacetime spy in America. The judge stated that the defendant's youth and the fact that he was "not of the criminal type" induced him not to impose the maximum sentence of 20 years.
