BRISBANE NEWSPAPER
FINAL ISSUE PUBLISHED END OF LABOUR JOURNAL (Received July 8, 12.25 a.m.) BRISBANE, July 7 The Brisbane Daily Standard, an evening Labour newspaper, ceased publication to-day, likewise its Saturday evening sporting edition. The Standard was founded 23J years ago by Mr. J. B. Sharpe, formerly a member of Parliament. It was acquired by the trades unions and more recently by the Australian Workers' Union. The leading article in the final issue this afternoon ascribes the paper's failure to lack of support by the very people whose battle it fought in "the fevered and dangerous period of democracy."
