OBSTRUCTIONS IN STREAMS GIFT OF BOOKS TO LIBRARY [FBOII OXTR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Tuesday A deputation from tho W hangarei Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, waited upon the Whangarei Borough Council last evening asking the council to remove the obstructions in the Waiorahia and Raumanga Streams, which, in the opinion of tho deputation, were largely responsible for the severe flooding of the factory in February last, involving over £SOO damage. After some discussion further consideration was held over until the next neeting of the council. On the casting vote of the Mayor, a motion to co-operate with the Government in a conference between the Government" and local bodies to discuss methods of starting the Auckland Harbour Bridge was defeated. A resolution was carripd that the council was not prepared to send delegates to the conference until it was in possession of an outline of the proposals to be submitted to the conference. A donation of 50 volumes of tho classics to the Whangarei Library by Mr. J. F. Brown, a member of tho Borough Council, was gratefully accepted by the council. In moving that a motion of appreciation be placed on record, Mr. A. T. Brainsby, chairman of the Library Committee, said the library was not very well supplied with classical works and he was concerned as to the weakness in this respect. Ihe gift represented a valuable addition to the library, and some of tho volumes were practically unprocurable on tho market to-day.
