THE NEW DOMAIN GATES

Sir _Amid all the criticism raging over the latest acquisition to our city, may 1 voice a word of thanks and praise to those responsible for its erection. To niv mind the whole pUin is beautifully conceived and wonderfully executed' and both architect and sculptor deserve the highest praise. The Domain now possesses an entrance that is an adornment to it, and 1 trust no action will be taken to alter in any way the completed design. Is Auckland to be made a laughing-stock? Personally, I shall avail myself of the first opportunity of taking my wife and family to view this noble acquisition, of which any city might feel proud. To the pure all things are pure. Parent.

Sir, —Ninety per cent of us do not understand 01 appreciate the finer points of art. If we could all progress step by step with our "teachers" we might possibly arrive at the same conclusions, but when we have their final theories thrust upon us wo have every right to be a little dazed and then indignant. The important thing to remember is that the reaction of such an unusual piece of work on the mature adult mind is of very little importance, for obvious reasons. It is in the world of little people—the young child—whose morals we as parents so jealously strive to guard, that wo find the most startling reaction. Parent.
