COAL DEALER FINED
NO PROPER SCALES [from our own correspondent] I'UKEKOHE, Monday "Coal must bo sold by weight and in no other way," said an inspector of weights and measures, Mr. E. H. Burehall. in the Pukekohe Police Court today in proceeding against Percy Lapwood, coal dealer, of Tuakau, for failing to have a suitable weighing machine. Defendant pleaded guilty. For defendant, Mr. W. J. King, stated that defendant had a set of scales, but it became inaccurate. A new set was now being obtained from Wellington. Railway scales had been used meanwhile and defendant was emphatic that he was giving 91b. to 101b. overweight in each bag. The Magistrate. Mr. F. H. Levien: I cannot credit that. Defendant was fined £3 and costs.
