CITY BUILDING SOLD

TRANSPORT BOARD PROPERTY BOUGHT BY FARMERS' UNION The sale of the Auckland Transport Board's building adjoining the power sub-station in Hobson Street to the Auckland Provincial branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, was authorised at a meeting of the board yesterday. The purchase price was £7600. The union intends to take possession at once, and its office will be established in. the buildfng. After fairly extensive alterations have been made, the remainder will probably be let.

The building was bought in 1912 with a view to the possible extension of the power station in the future, but thi§ has not been necessary, and the Transport. Board has not used the building since it took over the tramway undertaking. It was let for several years to the Kauri Gum Commissioners, and has been unoccupied for some time.

Built of brick and wood, the building has a frontage of 66ft. to Hobson Street and stands nearly three storeys high on that street. It has a 69ft. front to Fanshawe Street, where it is four storeys high. The union's present offices are in Holdsworth Building, which has been sold to Wright, Stephenson and Company, The negotiations for the sale were conducted for the board by a committee comprising the chairman, Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Mr. R. Ferner and Mr. E. J. Phelan, through C. F. Bennett, Limited. Mr. H. 0. Mellsop, Auckland Provincial "president, Mr. A. E. Robinson, secretary, and Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, M.P., acted for the union.
