UNLICENSED DRIVERS
CHARGES AT WH ANGAREI SMALL FINES IMPOSED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday "The only point I want to make on the mntter at the moment is that the raid on motorists this year was made a little earlier than usual, and for that reason I do not propose to inflict heavy fines," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, when 37 motorists were charged that on June 5 they did not possess current drivers' licences. Mr. Trimmer, who appeared for the Automobile Association in the majority of cases, asked for an adjournment until next Court day. This was granted. Sergeant Culloty prosecuted the remainder. Fines of 10s and costs were imposed on those residing in or near Whangarei, while those living some distance out in the country, who stated that they wore unable for various reasons to coine into Whangarei earlier, were convicted and ordered to pay costs.
