CONTESTS IN COUNTRY NGATEA BEATS WAITAKARURU The following additional results of Rugby matches played in country centres of the Auckland Province oil Saturday have been forwarded by Hkhald correspondents:— Thames.—ln the Hauraki Plains Rucrby contests on Saturday, Ngatea defeated Waftakaruru by 31 points to 9. United defaulted to Patetonga. In the junior game 3, Kerepcehi defeated Waitakaruru by 21 poin::s to 10, and in the third grade Ngatea defeated Patetonga by 18 points to O. only senior match played at Opotiki on Saturday was between Whakatohea and tho Rest, and resulted in a runaway victory for the former team, which was too good in all departments of the game. For the Whakatohea team, Poihipi was outstanding in the forwards, while T. Walker, Ross, Ilunia, Shali!oon and C. Walker were prominent in Ihe backs. The only try secured by the Rest was by Clay, near the end of the game. Ross scored an exciting try for Whakatohea, and C. Walker dropped a fine goal. The goal-kicking geniir-. ally was poor. The final scores were: Whakatohea; 24, tho Rest, 3. The junior gains resulted: Country, 10, Torere, nil. F'aparoa.—Seniors: Maungaturoto 11, v. Waipu, 0; Kaiwaka, 5, v. Mangawai, 3; Mai:akohe, 15, v. Tauplrl.—Te' Awamutu defeated Taupiri West at Ngaruawahia by 21 points to 9, mainly because of the superiority of the visiting backs. Although heavier the Te Awarautu forwards did not show to. any.great advantage except in set 6crunus, where they won the ball more than the home team. Early in the game Ilood "scored for .Taupiri and shortly afterward kicked a penalty, tlsing his weight to advantage Wynyard scored two tries in quick succession, Bell converting with good kicks. Tombs and Ilanna were dangerous when in possession, while Grace was sound at fullback. Mcßur.oey and Williams in the backs and Engle, Vincent and Bull played well for the home team. Matakohe, G, REFEREES' ASSOCIATION VISIT TO SOUTH AUCKLAND Fifty-five members were present at th» weekly mooting of. the Auckland Rugby Referees Association, presided over by Mr. A. A. Lucas. The president reported on a visit several of the association's members had paid to the South Auckland Referees' Association. The two lectures given were most favourably received. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks for the hospitality extended by tho South Auckland referees. Messrs. E. A. Mcintosh and W, S. ladkin were elected members of the association, and Messrs. E. K. Carter and P. E. Reeves were reported as having passed their oral examination. Mr. J. G. Gasparich was thanked by the association for $n instructive lecture on the scrum law. He stressed the importance of prompt and decisive action being taken against all offenders against this law. TAURANGA V.
