INTER-ISLAND MATCH

NORTH PLAYERS SELECTED

DEMPSEY AT FULLBACK

The selector of the North Island Rugby League team, Mr. H. Avery, lias announced the following players to meet the South Island in the match at Carlaw Park next Saturday:— Fullback.—C. Denipsey (Auckland). Tlircequarters.—L. Brown, it. ilaslam. It. Bright (Auckland). Five-eighths.—W. Tittlcton (Auckland), E. Staples (Ilawke's Ray). Halfback. —J. Coman (Wellington).

Forwards.—Front row, F. Pickrang (Auckland), J. Satherley (Auckland), J. Coutts (Wellington); second row, J. Anderson (Auckland), K. Morgan (Auckland); breakaway, 11. Tetley (Auckland). Reserves.—A. Kay (hack) and J. Peterson (forward), of Auckland. The selector is evidently experimenting with some players in view of the forthcoming tour of the Englishmen. Dempsey's inclusion in preference to Kerr, Dcvonport, will cause surprise. Staples is said to be a promising five-eighths, while Coman, Wellington, is being given a further chance. Both he and ('outts played well for Wellington in xlie recent match against Auckland. Denipsey, Ilaslam, Staples, Coman, Pickrang, Coutts, Anderson and Morgan will be representing the North Island for the first tllllO. TRIAL MATCH ARRANGED A decision to play an Auckland A and B trial match at Carlaw Park on Saturday as a curtain-raiser to the North v. South Island fixture was made yesterday by the Auckland Rugby League The teams will be selected this evening. Tho New Zealand selectors, Messrs. J. Amos, 11. Avery and A. T. MeClymont, will witness the g:.me. All players taking part will bo eligible for selection in the New Zealand test team.
