ANNUAL WELSH CONCERT

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME Many expressive vocal, choral and instrumental numbers were rendered at the annual concert of the Auckland Welsh Society, held in the Lewis Eady Hall last night. There were many visitors from outlying districts, and the hall was well filled. The choral series, under the baton of Mr. D. R. Da vies, was characteristic of the Welsh people, and even the vocal solos with frankly English titles were given new identities through being sung in the Welsh tongue, greatly to the enjoyment of the audience. The soloists were Mr. Dudley Wrathall, Mrs. E. Cameron, Mrs. Salisbury Sykes, "Friend John," Miss Woolford and Miss Pauline Munro. Quartettes were given by Miss Gwyneth Parry, Mrs. Carey Williams, Mr. Hugh Williams and Mr. Carey Williams, and Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Wrathall sang a duet from "Maid of the Mountains." The accompanists were Miss Gwyneth Parry and Mrs. G. F. Beck.

The president, Mr. T. E. Price, said that for centuries the Welsh had cultivated a love of music, and once a year the flower of her youth was represented at the national festival, the Eisteddfod. The ambition of every Welsh boy and girl who possessed the gift was that of winning the Bardic Chair of poetry, or to be declared the victor in the competitive realm of music.
