ASSAULT IN SHOP

TWO MEN FINED Charges of assaulting James Kirhy and committing mischief by wilfully breaking a jardiniere valued at 15s. the property of Jessie Kirby, were admitted by Frederick Ernest Gould, aged 2 ( J, and Stanley Thompson, aged 34, in the Police Court yesterday. It was stated by the police that the assault occurred in a Syniouds Street fruit shop on Sunday night. Accused had been drinking, although they were not drunk. Kirby, who had been serving in the shop, suffered an injury to an eyebrow and a cheek-bone

Mr. Henry, who appeared for both men, said they would take the blame lor what had occurred. On the charge of assault each man was fined L'.'J, in default 14 days' im prisonment, and ordered to pay the expenses of a doctor and witness totalling £1 os. They were also fined 10s each, in default seven days' imprisonment, on the mischief charge, and ordered to make good the damage.
