YEAR'S SURPLUS £92,251

ACCUMULATED FUNDS [from our own cob respondent] SUVA, July l Reference to the satisfactory financial position of Fiji was made by the Act-ing-Governor. the Hon. Juxon Barton, at the session of the Legislative Council held on June 24. It was reported bv the Colonial Treasurer that the revenue for 1935 exceeded that of 1934 by £109,065, and was £IOB,BBB more than the amount estimated. Revenue for the year totalled £733,432. Expenditure was £641,181, of which £35,734 was ex|>cnded from tho Accumulated Surplus Funds upon works approved. The result of the year's working was, therefore, a net surplus of £92,251 of revenue over expenditure, and the accumulated surplus funds of the Colony were increased to the record figure of £353,416. In addition the Colony possesses reserves of £246,636 in the Immigration Fund Proceeds Account, and in the reserve fund.
