WINTER SHOW

FINAL PREPARATIONS

OPENING TO-MORROW

WIDE RANGE OF INTERESTS

Most of the main constructional alterations to the Central Wharf sheds for the annual Auckland Winter Exhibition, which will open to-morrow, have been completed. Surprising progress was made yesterday, and when tools were laid away for the night only finishing touches, which will be carried out to-day, remained to be done. Good progress has been made with the entrance. Enclosed passages linking the four spacious buildings were among the last jobs in hand, and that joining the opposite sheds engaged the workmen last night. The concert and cinema hall, dining room, and exhibit stands received the attention of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's carpenters. Practically every available foot of floor space has been booked and the erection of exhibitors' stands added to the nctivity of yesterday's operations. These stalls are required to be in order by late this afternoon, and this work will provide another extremely busy day for the 200 odd persons working at the show. Some impressive stands have already been prepared, and a very attractive exhibition should result.

One of the principal features should be the extensive array of art and photography exhibits, to which an entire wall will be devoted. The dairy produce display, with those of vegetables and fruit, promises to be something out of the ordinary. Entertainments will include free cinema programmes and stage presentations by several bands, a vaudeville party, a South Seas Islands concert party, and numerous other performers, while there will be an extensive variety of side-shows. There will be numerous competitive classes and the Auckland Kennel Club's show during the first two days should attract considerable attention. Two hundred dogs from all parts of New Zealand have been entered, the largest sections being collies, smooth fox terriers, low-to-ground terriers and English setters. Following this show one will be staged by the Auckland Poultry Club, and it is expected to be one of the best of recent years. Doors will open at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and the show will be officially opened in the concert hall at 7.30 in the evening by the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce. During the 10 days of the exhibition schoolchildren with teachers will be admitted free.
