POLISH TRAVELLER
YACHTSMAN AND AUTHOR LEISURELY WORLD TOUR Only 23, but already the author of two travel books, Mr. Wladyslaw Wagner, a native of Poland, arrived at Auckland by the Monowai from Sydney yesterday. He has been travelling about the world for the past four years and is at present on his way to Equador, where he proposes to build a yacht in which he will continue his journeyings.
In July, 1932, he left Poland in his first yacht, a 29ft. vessel named the Zjawa, and for many months followed the coastline of Europe, being accompanied by only one companion. From Europe ho went to Africa and later he crossed to South America, sailing up the western coastline to Panama. There, in December, 1933, his yacht was badly damaged in a storm, and lie resolved to dispose of it and build another.
It was not until the end of 1934 that he left Panama in the Zjawa 11.. and in a leisurely voyage called at Equador, Samoa and Fiji, in Fiji early this year Mr. Wagner disposed of Jiis second craft and travelled by steamer to Australia. He will leave Auckland by the Mataroa 011 Saturday and will tranship at Panama for Equador. Mr. Wagner is an instructor in the Polish Boys' Scout Association, and to this association and to other Polish institutions he sends comprehensive reports on his travels. One of his objects is to loster a sea-going sense among Polish youth, and it also is his aim to disseminate information about his native land.
