AKARANA CLUB'S SEASON DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES The Akarana Yarht Club held Its annual distribution of prizes and dance in the clnbliruse, Campbell's Point, on Saturday night. Thero was a large attendance of members and visitors, including representatives from the various yacht and motor-boat clubs on tho Manukau and Wnitemnta Harbours. The prizes were neatly arranged at the head of the hall, and made a splendid showing, (hips, rope, paint, oars and crockery were included in the list of trophies. The president. Mr. 1,. A. Heard, apologised for (he absence of the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, and, in extending a welcomo to the visitors, said the past season hurt been a most successful one.
Captain H. 11. Sergeant, patron, who presented the prizes, congratulated the club on i«n fine array of trophies, which, he said, was one of the best in its history. Eight days were devoted to racing during the past year, a total of 303 entries being received. Although the weather If.st year was not very satisfactory for yachting, tho Akarana Club was forinnato to experience favourable condi lions for its own events, Since last year the Royal Naval Sailing Association had been formed in England for the purpose of encouraging sailing. Branches were being established in all parts of tho Empire, and Lieut.Oomrr.aiider J. T. Lean, of 11.M.5. Philomel, had been appointed the Auckland representative for the association. Tho most important prizes were won by the following:—Balakovic Cup. Iona: Willetts Memorial Cup Vamp; Commemoration Cup, Gicriana; lle-o-lin Cup, Paroro; Elliot Davis Cup Shalimar; Captain White Cup, Omatere; Ailsa Craig Cup, Octavia S.; Booby Cup, Vestis; lift championship cup, Shalimar; aggregate points flai{. lona, 30 points; runner-up, koiaata, 35 points. Other prizes were won by the following:— Windward, Rambler, Lady Edna, Peri, Speedwe'l Anita, Mayhelle, Valdora, l'audora, Omatere' (five first prizes). Calypso. Tamariki, Marika, Koliara, Rakoa, Melita, Marie, Winifred, Mawhiti, Memutu, Surprise. I)rone. Muncno, Ar 1 ino, IJuwk, Mtuniin, Mulolo, Sliujnrock Maroro, Daphne. Manutero, Kandy Kid, Itanaitira, Tiki, Sirona, Namu, Leone. Seymour Clio, Ai'leen, Treasure, Wakaranu, remI est Muimai Rebel, Aloha. Karoro, Mania, Swallow.
