RAW TOBACCO
A MINIMUM PRICE APPLICATION OF LEVY [BY telkgraph —puftss association] CHKISTUHUKCH, Saturday The question of the fixation of a minimum price for raw tobacco was an item of major importance considered by the Tobacco Board at a recent meeting. The board decided to recom■nend to the Government that a minimum price be fixed for all leaf purchased by manufacturers during tho season ending March 31, 1937. A point was raised in regard to the application of the levy of .Jd per lb. 011 raw tobacco sold by growers to leaf held over from the 1934-35 season. In accordance with the provisions of the Tobacco Growing Industry Act, 1935, the levy is applicable to all raw tobacco sold. A further question also arose as to whether or not the levy should apply to raw tobacco exported from New Zealand. The board decided that all tobacco leaf, whether for manufacture in New Zealand or for export, should be subject to tho levy.
