ALLEN'S CAPTAINCY PRAISED

Very high tributes to the young Somerset player H. Gimblett are a feature of the critics' review of the test match with India.

The Daily Mail's critic says: "Obviously a player who is ripening for the highest class of batsmanship, Gimblett has asserted a definite right to his place to England's team. Credit also is due to Turnbull for his grit and skill, but otherwise England's victory did not prove much reason for complacency. There is no need to worry toe much about the batting, but it is to be hoped that the selectors will not dream of allowing a team to take the field in the second test with only one bowler who exceeds slow-medium in pace. Nobody could reasonably complain of Allen's captaincy, but there are misgivings as to whether a fast bowler should lead the team to Australia."
